Kamala Harriss Final Poll Number in Home State of California: 7% | | Link: http://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/08/11/kamala-harris-final-poll-number-in-california-7-percent/ | | Published Date: 2020-08-12 | Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) emerged as former Vice President Joe Bidens running mate on Tuesday. But her presidential campaign was a disaster: even in her home state, Harris struggled to build support, finishing at 7% in California last year.
Harris started slowly in California, only reaching fourth place in the crowded field in June 2019, at 13%. But she soon surged, particularly after the first presidential primary debate in Miami, Florida, when she attacked Biden over his past support for segregationists, and his opposition to mandatory school integration (busing). She led the Democratic Party field in California in July 2019, with 23% of the vote.
But she received only tepid support from other elected Democrats in the state, and progressive activists remained wary, especially with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the race.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) also took the fight to Harris in the second presidential debate in Detroit, Michigan, focusing negative attention on Harriss checkered record as a prosecutor in San Francisco and as California Attorney General.
By the fall of 2019, Harris had fallen back into single digits in some California polls, while the frontrunners Sanders, Biden, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) were into the 20s.
Her clumsy campaign could not right itself, and she continued to languish in her home state, while more enterprising candidates such as then-South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg ran far more energetic campaigns in the state.
By late November, a poll by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies for the Los Angeles Times showed that by 61% to 24%, likely Democratic primary voters in California thought Harris should quit the race. Harris was at 7%.
Her final finish in the RealClearPolitics primary poll average for California was 8.3% down from a high of 23%.

Kamala Harris (D-CA), who was tapped Tuesday as former Vice President Joe Bidens vice presidential pick for 2020, recently voiced support for defunding the Pentagon.
In July, she stopped short of backing an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to defund the Pentagon by ten percent in 2021, but said in a statement afterwards that she unequivocally agreed with the goal to reduce the defense budget, and she remained supportive of the effort:
I applaud Senator Sanders and am grateful for all the work that hes done on this amendment. I unequivocally agree with the goal of reducing the defense budget and redirecting funding to communities in need, but it must be done strategically. I remain supportive of the effort, and am hopeful that with the benefit of additional time, future efforts will more specifically address these complicated issues and earn my enthusiastic support.
Harris then joined 13 other Senators in voting against the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes Pentagon spending and activities, as well as troop pay.
She said in a statement:
I am thankful for all the work negotiators did to this point, however, I voted no because Californians demand better. I could not vote for a bill that provides backdoor funding for Trumps border wall, clears a pathway to testing a nuclear weapon for the first time in decades, and does not adequately address the scourge of sexual assault in the military. And I could not back this bill after Republicans refused to include our amendments to demilitarize police departments.
President Trump said Tuesday about Harris during a press conference, Shes a big slasher of funds for our military.
Harris either missed or voted against the two previous National Defense Authorization Act bills.
She missed the vote on the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act on June 27, 2019, and voted against the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act, along with nine other senators.
The last NDAA she voted for was 2018, when she said, This bill ensures our brave service members have the equipment, support, and benefits required to defend our nation, and improves military readiness, capacity, and modernization.

Kamala Harris (D-CA) earlier this year urged supporters in the wake of protests over George Floyds death to donate to a group pushing for the defunding of police.
Harris, who is now former Vice President Joe Bidens running mate, took to social media in early June as protests over Floyds death in Minneapolis police custody were roiling the nation. The Senator asked supporters to chip in and donate to Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF) so it could help post bail for individuals arrested while protesting Floyds death throughout the state.
If youre able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota. https://t.co/t8LXowKIbw Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) June 1, 2020
At the time, the group, which opposes pre-trial detention and uses donations to pay bail fees, was being flooded with contributions from celebrities and elected officials. Many of those donating were doing so as a show of solidarity with protesters.
It is unclear, though, if Harris knew the full extent of the groups platform while calling for supporters to contribute financially. Just two days prior to Harriss request for donations, MFF announced its support for defunding the police.
Were gonna need you
to do better than vague promises of change, the group told Minnesotas governor upon the announcement that Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer accused of killing Floyd, was arrested. Defund the Police. End Money Bail. Rebuild our small [Black, Indigenous, People of Color] owned businesses.
Were gonna need you @GovTimWalz to do better then vauge promises of change. Defund the Police. End Money Bail. Rebuild our small BIPOC owned businesses. https://t.co/HZkIgX2q3s Minnesota Freedom Fund (@MNFreedomFund) May 30, 2020
Since then, the group has become only more vocal about its support for defunding the police. MFF is encouraging donations to Reclaim the Block, a Minneapolis-based advocacy organization calling for the city government to divest from law enforcement and commit to never again increase the police departments budget.
As Breitbart News noted in May, at least 13 individuals employed by Bidens campaign also donated money to the MFF in the wake of George Floyds death. Even though the campaign has denied the donations were coordinated through them, they do pose a problem, especially as Biden tries to convince voters he disagrees with more progressive elements in his partys platform that support defunding.
The presumptive Democrat nominee said during a recent campaign event:
I dont want to defund police. I want to get police more money in order to deal with the things they badly need, from
access to community policing
[to] social workers
who can handle those god-awful problems that a cop has to have four degrees to handle.
Neither Harris nor the Biden campaign returned requests for comment on this story. | Harris: Ban Plastic Straws, Alter Food Pyramid to Limit Red Meat | | Link: http://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/08/11/kamala-harriss-radical-green-new-deal-vision-ban-plastic-straws-alter-food-pyramid-to-limit-red-meat/ | | Published Date: 2020-08-12 | Joe Biden (D) announced Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his running mate on Tuesday someone who holds far-left positions, particularly on climate change, an issue central to the progressive wings vision for America.
Despite initially positioning herself as a more moderate candidate during the primary, Harris holds a common vision with the far-left, proposing a ban on plastic straws and altering the food pyramid as part of a greater effort to address climate change.
Biden, whom many have described as a moderate candidate, has demonstrated his willingness to embrace radical left-wing policies. While the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force displayed Bidens ease in moving further to the left, his choice for a running mate reinforced that reality.
While climate change remains among the least important issues for Americans moving into the 2020 election, it remains a central piece in the Democrat Partys overall platform, and Harriss vision is just as radical as those of Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) champions of the Green New Deal.
We must have and adopt a Green New Deal, Harris said during a debate last summer. On day one as president, I would reenter us in the Paris Agreement and put it in place so we would be carbon neutral by 2030.
That same summer, Harris teamed up with Ocasio-Cortez to advance the Climate Equity Act, which would rate economic regulations based on its impact on low-income communities, which are disproportionately affected by climate change because they are often in flood zones, near highways or power plants, or adjacent to polluted lands known as brownfields, according to the New York Times.
Harris doubled down on her radical positions during CNNs Climate Change Town Hall last September, expressing support for both banning plastic straws and creating incentives to end the use of single-use plastic altogether.
I think we have to create incentives to ban these we have to create incentives, and there is no question that we have seen innovation take place when leaders lead, she said.
I think we should, yes, Harris said when asked if we should ban plastic straws. Im going to be honest, its really difficult to drink out of a paper straw
weve got to kind of perfect that one a little bit more.
She added that officials should encourage innovation.
And I think we can do a little better than some of those flimsy plastic straws. But we do need to ban the plastic, she reiterated.
During that same forum, Harris said she would support changing dietary guidelines the food pyramid to reduce red meat consumption as part of a greater effort to address climate change.
Ive actually worked on this issue in the past, and its about consumer awareness, Harris said, reminding the audience that she, too, enjoys a burger from time to time.
I strongly believe the American consumer is left without the information that you need and deserve to have about what it is that you are putting in your body or surrounding yourselves with and the health implications of those things, she said.
The California Democrat added that included upon that list should be a measure of the impact on the environment,' as Breitbart News reported at the time.
Despite her advocacy for consumer awareness, Harris gleefully participated in the Polk County Democrats Steak Fry in Iowa in September which featured over 10,000 sizzling steaks even busting a move at the event:
I don't know if you heard, but I'm moving to Iowa! Thank you, @PolkDems, for putting on a fantastic #SteakFry and giving us the opportunity to bring our campaign directly to Iowans. We're going to win this thing by coming together and fighting for the best of who we are. pic.twitter.com/z6gu9sBe6g Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) September 21, 2019
Notably, Biden assisted organizers in grilling the steaks, demonstrating no concern for the purported impact red meat has on the environment: | Obama Overjoyed with Bidens VP Pick: Sen. The lessons learned can provide valuable insight.

As companies and institutions of all sizes and industries still grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, their supply chain and logistics teams need to be able to refocus their efforts to keep up with the continuing demands.
Here are three things we've learned from the early days of the pandemic that can help logistics companiesor any other companieswhen they struggle to keep up.
SEE: Inside UPS: The logistics company's never-ending digital transformation (free PDF) (TechRepublic)
Prioritize crisis-based essentials
Under normal circumstances, keeping customers happy means consumer and business products need to reach their destinations on time. But these aren't normal circumstances. People and institutions around the world are relying on life-saving and sustaining items like food, medical supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE). While there are no guaranteed delivery dates these days, some items simply need to be prioritized.
SEE: Zoom vs. Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco WebEx and Skype: Choosing the right video-conferencing apps for you (TechRepublic)
With the increasing volume of online shopping, large e-commerce companies such as Amazon began prioritizing essential products, including household staples and medical supplies, as it struggled to deal with a surge in demand. Other items such as toilet paper, bleach, and sanitizing wipes have been taking top priority, and non-essential items such as flat-screen televisions were put on hold. Delivery service providers, like FedEx, Purolator, UPS, and others, also got behind in shipments and worked to focus on hospitals and care center needs. Leveraging its global network and logistics expertise to help organizations with mission-critical needs, FedEx focused some of its efforts on 1,000 special shipments delivering protective equipment from Direct Relief to help health centers, clinics, and hospitals.
Focus on front-line workers and those most vulnerable
We've all heard about the impact of the pandemic on front-line workers such as doctors, nurses, care-aids, and also those most vulnerable, including the elderly and those with lower immunity. Some online grocers were prioritizing by delivering to those more vulnerable first, including the elderly and support workers. Some online grocers have offered free delivery to medical staff and volunteers. Recognizing how busy front-line workers have been, some grocery chains have been providing them with front-of-the-line access when shopping in person. While it may not seem fair to some, these prioritizing measures are helping to save more lives.
Keep logistics and supply chain workers safe
Keeping workers safe means logistics and supply chain companies are more likely to continue to keep pace with the escalating demands for essential and non-essential goods. One delivery worker whose wife is a nurse said that while the hospital is taking steps to protect its staff, his employer could be doing more. He said he interacts with about 75 to 100 people each day and never thought he or his coworkers would be front-line workers in a pandemic. With all of the doors, handles, railings, packages, and other things that they touch each day, PPE supplies and equipment are needed by all delivery company staff. Sanitizing wipes, gloves, masks, and other PPE are essential for front-line delivery, stocking, and other staff to ensure they can deliver PPE equipment to hospitals and care centers or food to the vulnerable.
By prioritizing crisis-based essentials, especially for front-line workers and those most vulnerable, and keeping front-line staff safe, logistics and supply chain companies stand a greater chance of success during the pandemic.

In an effort to address the widening technology skills gap and put Americans to work, Woz Enterprisea division of Woz Uand the University of Phoenix have partnered to launch a US Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program. The program trains community college graduates in STEM fields with day-one skills and places them in entry-level apprenticeship jobs, while setting them on a path to earn a bachelor's degree in an in-demand field, Woz Enterprise said.
SEE: The most in demand jobs and skills as a result of COVID-19 (TechRepublic)
The program offers seven tracks with key skills taught:
Software development Java12 or .net core JavaScript, Angular SQL Server, Scrum/agile
End user computing incident response, operating systems networks, VPN troubleshooting
Cybersecurity monitoring/logging network appliances, penetration testing, network defense
Software testing testing automation selenium, continuous integration, scripting
Application infrastructure cloud hosting, AWS, Azure development, logging, monitoring
Network administration network configuration, network monitoring, network diagram scripting
Application support incident response logging, monitoring, querying, scripting, troubleshooting
The tech, education and government sectors needed to come together to make this happen, Woz Enterprise said.
"We have all heard about the tech talent gap. Hundreds of companies have been trying to address it, yet here we are in 2020, and the gap remains," said Chris Coleman, president of Woz Enterprise, in a statement. "Truly offering relief to this talent-starved industry, at scale, requires collaboration from the private, education, and government sectors. This apprenticeship model is the game changer we have all been looking for."
Through this program, apprentices learn while receiving a salary and gaining valuable work experience, according to Woz Enterprise, which builds and delivers the customized technology curricula that can result in credits toward a University of Phoenix Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT).
"This unique program comes at a critical time as companies today are looking for solutions to adapt the skills of their workforce to match the velocity of change of their businesses," said Raghu Krishnaiah, chief operating officer at the University of Phoenix.
He said the partnership provides "an unprecedented education pathway that includes validated learning outcomes for community college graduates."
The apprenticeship model launched this spring in 11 states in partnership with Infosys, a provider of digital, IT, and consulting services. Selected candidates completed an intensive, eight-week training program in one of the seven technology tracks to gain essential day-one skills to start a career with one of Woz Enterprise's recruiting business partners.
Then they become full-time junior associates, and the individuals participate in a structured online learning program for 12 months, Woz Enterprise said. During this time, they continue working and earning a salary, which increases as they gain key competencies. Training hours can be applied for college credit at University of Phoenix, potentially shortening the time to obtain the BSIT.
"We believe it is a great value proposition for all involved, allowing us to supply quality training to meet the staffing needs of the technology industry in America while providing income and great, flexible higher education opportunities to individuals," Coleman said. "We are embracing new perspectives and forming dynamic alliances to inject creativity and ingenuity in the technology sector."
The company said it will build on this initial alliance with the University of Phoenix and Infosys to expand and broaden the scope of the apprenticeship program.

Some recent breaches highlight the importance of cybersecurity.
How cybersecurity has changed since the coronavirus outbreak began, and what it means for businesses Watch Now
TechRepublic's Karen Roby spoke with Peter Martini, president and co-founder of iBoss, about data breaches and the importance of cybersecurity architecture. The following is an edited transcript of their conversation.
Karen Roby: One of the bigger breaches that we've been talking and reading about involves Instacart. Instacart said that reused passwords were the problem for account hacks, and whatever may have led to it, unfortunately, personal data can get out there and into the wrong hands. Let's talk a little bit about some of these breaches: What you are seeing in general and why people should be concerned.
SEE: VPN: Picking a provider and troubleshooting tips (free PDF) (TechRepublic)
Peter Martini: What we're seeing is actually a lot of it has to do with the overnight shift for a lot of organizations to move to remote employees and distanced working. Most organizations prior to COVID-19 were already moving to a cloud adoption, cloud security model, moving their data to the cloud, moving their security to the cloud. There were some companies that were a lot more progressive and further along that path than others. When COVID hit, what we've seen and heard from a lot of our customers, a lot of the organizations we work with, they had to, overnight, figure out how do they go from a traditional security design which is a perimeter-type security where the castle mote you secure the corporate headquarters and that becomes your security edge, to "My data and my employees now no longer live inside the castle they're outside the castle, they're accessing my data outside the perimeter. And how do I actually shift to that security so it secures those mobile users and remote workforces?"
During that gap, you can imagine, it's a free-for-all for hackers. You now have employees who traditionally had access to sensitive information and were within the windows or the walls of the corporate office. They're now outside using public networks, public Wi-Fi, homes that were never designed or likely not designed to have enterprise-grade security, firewalls, etc., now are out there accessing corporate information. So, effectively they're exposed. These employees were out there and issues like they access VPNs, the VPNs connect them back to the corporate office to then get to their corporate cloud data that's sitting inside of Azure or AWS. So, you can see where it's somewhat of a hacker's dream. You have them exposed, and they're out there on their own. That is a huge shift that a lot of organizations were scrambling to fill that gap, that void.
Karen Roby: When we talk about cloud data infrastructure and being vulnerable, what do companies do? We don't know how long many of them will have their workers at home. How do they continue to build things up so they aren't as vulnerable?
Peter Martini: What's happening, and again this is pre-COVID, the fact that their data that once resided within the corporate headquarters had begun to move to the cloud, third-party clouds like Azure and AWS the traditional perimeter as I mentioned, really shifted from the company headquarters to the individual user. Now you have users that are accessing data that no longer is in corporate headquarters. It's now in the cloud, those users are now your new perimeter. So, securing a user and the device, not the perimeter, becomes important.
SEE: Navigating data privacy (free PDF) (TechRepublic)
This was all happening before COVID and then you also have new architectures out there like ZTNAs--zero trust network access--as well as what some analysts refer to as SASE, Secure Access Service Edge. And the thesis being if they're connecting to the cloud, any user from anywhere, the security edge needs to become that cloud not back-hauling to a corporate office through a VPN and then to the internet. By doing that, we can now shift security so that it's not about who has passwords to get into a privileged access area, it's do you have the password but also how you are accessing the data, where are you accessing it from, and who's accessing it? So, you add multiple layers to protect those employees. Even in a circumstance where their password was hacked, that hacker would then need to still have the company computer and be accessing it from an approved location. You start putting these layers into a zero-trust model, and it's really almost becoming a standard requirement for a remote workforce world.
Karen Roby: For so many companies to ramp things up and to pivot on a dime and having to beef up their infrastructure, not a lot of budgets are just ready for that increase.
Peter Martini: You're right, and especially in certain verticals where they've been hit the hardest with COVID, such as hospitality, etc. The budgets there become very difficult. What you'll find is while securing the individual users provides more security, it's actually a lot more efficient. The majority of customers, I would say well over 80%, find significant savings by shifting to that design. You no longer have to spend all this capex dollars in buying equipment, stacking it up at your office, setting it all up. I mean, that costs real dollars.
You now just shift to SaaS (software as a service). I mean, it's the Microsoft Office model, where I can host it, I can run it, I can manage it, but is it just a lot cheaper to say each individual employee is going to cost me X dollars per month to secure? It's a lot more efficient design. And the security edge providers take the burden of all the backend, the updates, the patches, etc. So, it creates a lot more efficient model than you would think, and it's actually one of the catalysts of why organizations were moving that way pre-COVID, anyhow.
